Clay is a Director at Publica, where he leads public realm and urban design projects and plays a key role in design leadership across the practice. His work is founded on site-specific visual research, with the aim of creating places that are socially, aesthetically and ecologically productive.

His experience spans large-scale infrastructure and masterplanning, streets and public spaces, parks, gardens and residential development. He works through all stages of the design process, from early strategy and conceptualisation through to construction on site, with a particular focus on the spatial, material and environmental qualities that shape the experience of public space.

Clay is currently leading design work for the transformation of Marble Arch, rethinking the setting of the monument and its relationship with Hyde Park and the surrounding city. He also led the Shoreditch Public Realm and Urban Greening Framework, establishing an area-wide strategy for public realm, movement, landscape and biodiversity.

Alongside his work at Publica, Clay teaches on the Historical and Sustainable Architecture course at NYU London. He holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from Harvard University, a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia, and he is a Chartered Landscape Architect in the UK.
