Illuminated River International Design Competition

Lucy Musgrave is delighted to have been appointed to the jury for the Illuminated River International Design Competition, launched in June 2016 by the Illuminated River Foundation, supported by The Rothschild Foundation. The competition is seeking multi-disciplinary creative teams with artistic vision and lighting expertise who can deliver inspirational light art on London’s bridges to reinvigorate the River Thames. The project covers 17 road, rail and pedestrian bridges over the River Thames from Albert Bridge to Tower Bridge, and will result in a series of free, permanent light installations.

Experiencing an overwhelming response to its first stage submission, 105 teams entered, made up of 346 individual firms. The teams have now been shortlisted and six finalists will go on to develop concept design lighting schemes for four specific bridges as well as an overall masterplan, which will be judged by the jury later in November 2016.

The jury comprises of a number of high-profile artists and cultural figures including: Dame Julia Peyton-Jones (formerly Director of the Serpentine Galleries); Michael Craig-Martin, (Artist); Justine Simons OBE (Deputy Mayor for Culture and Creative Industries) and Lord Rothschild OM GBE (Chairman of the Rothschild Foundation).
