Lucy Musgrave Night time Commission role

Lucy Musgrave has been appointed to sit on the Mayor of London’s Night Time Commission.

The Night Time Commission has been appointed to assist in the realisation of the Mayor’s Vision for London as a 24-Hour City which sets out the Mayor’s plan to turn London into a leading 24-hour global city. The 24-hour vision strives to create a night-time culture which: promotes culture and leisure for all ages and interests, increases opening hours, ensures safety for residents, visitors and night-time workers and works closely with boroughs and the police to create a balanced and sustainable night time offer.

In order to achieve these aims, the Night Time Commission will investigate by consulting with London residents, evening and night workers, councils, businesses, community groups, public sector organisations and visitors to the capital.

The Commission are due to report back their findings in late 2018.

Lucy’s Musgrave said: “Let’s study our neighbourhoods and understand how they work at night. Let’s improve the way we light London at night, ‘Cities are like cats: they reveal themselves at night’, Rupert Brooke.”

Publica Away Day 2017

The Publica team travelled to Shoreham in Kent for our annual away-day, arriving by bike and train with picnics in hand. We enjoyed a day of presentations and discussions about recent and future projects, heard from many members of the team and shared insights across departments, and took in some beautiful countryside views.

The British 10K

On Sunday 9th July nine Publica team members took on the challenge of running the British 10k in Central London. The run started from Wellington Arch looped through Westminster and finished at Whitehall. It was an extremely hot day which made the run even more of a challenge. There was lots of support and cheering along the route which spurred along the Publica team and everyone completed the distance with great times. Well done to everyone who took part!

Open Studio 2017

Thank you to everyone who came along and made our LFA Open Studio 2017 such a success. This year our exhibition responded to the theme ‘Fieldwork’, with the main exhibition focused on three ‘geographies’ where Publica has undertaken extensive Fieldwork: the Oxford Street district, The Northbank and examples from our international studies. It was great to see lots of familiar faces and meet new people were interested to learn more about our practice.

Open Studio for LFA 2017 – Fieldwork

Publica invites you to join us for our Open Studio evening as part of the 2017 London Festival of Architecture. This year we present Fieldwork - a showcase of recent surveys, sketches, drawings, maps, photographs, films and reports from our projects in London and abroad.

Fieldwork: Publica’s team of urban designers, researchers, photographers, graphic designers and filmmakers use a wide variety of investigative mapping, drawing and documentation methods to illustrate and understand the process of urban change. Over the past seven years, Publica has studied over 70 London neighbourhoods and published over 100 reports that span local, district-wide and international scales. This neutral, evidence-based body of work includes issues related to the integration of new development, public space, civic amenity, air quality, greenery, infrastructure, housing and the creative industries.

Please join us for a drink, meet the team and see some of our work! To RSVP click here.

Time: 6pm – 9pm

Date: Friday 23 June 2017

Civic Urbanism for the West End?

Lucy Musgrave and Alex Arestis were delighted to be asked to contribute to Centre for London’s latest London Essays publication on the future of the West End which launched this October. Their essay urges for consideration of the West End's streets and spaces from a civic urbanist’s perspective, as a way to secure its future and ensure it continues to thrive in London's constantly changing urban landscape.
