Open Studio for LFA 2017 – Fieldwork

Publica invites you to join us for our Open Studio evening as part of the 2017 London Festival of Architecture. This year we present Fieldwork - a showcase of recent surveys, sketches, drawings, maps, photographs, films and reports from our projects in London and abroad.

Fieldwork: Publica’s team of urban designers, researchers, photographers, graphic designers and filmmakers use a wide variety of investigative mapping, drawing and documentation methods to illustrate and understand the process of urban change. Over the past seven years, Publica has studied over 70 London neighbourhoods and published over 100 reports that span local, district-wide and international scales. This neutral, evidence-based body of work includes issues related to the integration of new development, public space, civic amenity, air quality, greenery, infrastructure, housing and the creative industries.

Please join us for a drink, meet the team and see some of our work! To RSVP click here.

Time: 6pm – 9pm

Date: Friday 23 June 2017

Civic Urbanism for the West End?

Lucy Musgrave and Alex Arestis were delighted to be asked to contribute to Centre for London’s latest London Essays publication on the future of the West End which launched this October. Their essay urges for consideration of the West End's streets and spaces from a civic urbanist’s perspective, as a way to secure its future and ensure it continues to thrive in London's constantly changing urban landscape.

NLA City of London on Location: Future-proofing the Square Mile

Anna Mansfield, Strategic Projects Director, will be speaking at the NLA's annual City of London on Location conference on Tuesday 3 November. This year the event will examine the future for development and infrastructure in the City of London and how the City is looking to ‘future proof’ the Square Mile so that it continues to evolve as one of the world’s most successful financial and business districts.

With ten tall towers planned for the City that will accommodate 50,000 additional jobs on their own, how is the City getting ready for the impact this will have on the Square Mile?

Publica’s 5th Birthday

Publica celebrated its first five years in practice with a cross-location party held in the Northbank district, where we recently completed a Vision and Public Realm Strategy. Sincere thanks to the Duchy of Lancaster, the Queen’s Chapel of the Savoy, The Savoy and the Northbank BID for their generous support of the event and for kindly accommodating the last minute changes precipitated by the inclement weather!

Following Chaplin Peter Galloway’s tour of the Queen’s Chapel of The Savoy, guests decamped to The Savoy hotel for speeches made by Councillor Robert Davis, Deputy Leader City of Westminster; journalist and writer Sir Simon Jenkins; and TfL’s Director of Strategy and Planning, Surface Transport, Ben Plowden. Once the sun had set, a specially commissioned film was screened in Savoy Steps as an ephemeral homage to the first music video, Bob Dylan’s Subterranean Homesickness Blues, filmed on the street 50 years ago.

Thanks to all our clients, collaborators and the Publica team past and present for helping to make the past five years such a success. We look forward to working with you all in the future, and of course, celebrating our 10th anniversary in 2020!
